A five-month-old baby boy and his mother were rushed to the hospital Tuesday after being involved in a car wreck on N. Expressway 83 in San Benito.

Officer Juan Velez of the San Benito Police Department (SBPD) said four vehicles were involved in the accident and cited the cause as a failure to slow down in inclement weather conditions.

It was approximately 10:54 a.m. Tuesday, a time when unexpected showers left city streets drenched, when Velez said the driver of a blue Dodge, identified as 21-year-old David Amaya of Harlingen rear-ended a Chevrolet pickup truck that was towing a trailer while traveling northbound on Expressway 83 in the vicinity of McCullough and Sam Houston Boulevard.
