Son accused of assault

A San Benito mother made the difficult call to 911 after she was allegedly assaulted by her own son.
According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at around 4 p.m.

Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence just outside the San Benito City Limits regarding the alleged assault.

Upon arrival, reports the CCSO, sheriff’s deputies made contact with the 44-year-old-female subject who reported that her son, 20-year-old Leonardo Emiliano Sanchez, allegedly assaulted her. The subject reported that Sanchez became upset because she did not lend him her vehicle, which led to Sanchez allegedly striking his mother, causing her to experience physical pain.

According to the CCSO, sheriff’s deputies observed injuries on the victim which corroborated her statement of events. According to deputies who were at the scene, while they were taking the subject’s report, Sanchez walked up from behind the residence and allegedly said that he had indeed assaulted his mother.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Sanchez and transported him to the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olimito pending arraignment. Sanchez is charged with Assault Family Violence: TPC 22.01, a Class “A” Misdemeanor.
