A routine traffic stop in San Benito City led Cameron County Sherriff’s Deputies to a stash of alleged contraband.
On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Iowa Gardens Rd. and Business 77 in San Benito, due to an alleged a traffic violation.
Sheriff’s deputies made contact with the operator of the vehicle and identified him as 30-year-old Luis Alfredo Garza. According to a Cameron County Sherriff’s Office (CCSO) report, during the course of the interview, Garza allegedly voluntarily provided a personal use amount of Marijuana to the deputies and was taken into custody.
According to the CCSO report, deputies proceeded to search Garza and reportedly located Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) cartridges in his pockets. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and located more THC cartridges, Alprazolam pills and weapons.
Sheriff’s investigators assisted in the case and obtained consent from Garza to search his home where investigators allegedly discovered THC cartridges and containers of THC wax, which Garza admitted ownership, according to the report.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Garza and transported him to the Carrizales-Rucker Cameron County Detention Center in Olmito pending arraignment.
Garza was charged with the Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance; PG-2, a First Degree Felony and Possession of Controlled Substance; PG-3, a Class “A” Misdemeanor. The investigation is ongoing.
