Friends remember San Benito business owner

Friends and members of his church remember local business owner Roger Lee Engle as a pleasant, caring man.

The owner of Don’s Liquor in San Benito, Engle died unexpectedly on Dec. 14.

According to Ruth Woods, who knew him through All Saints Episcopal Church, which he attended, said that he had been under the weather recently, but Engel’s death came as a surprise to everyone.

Woods said, “He always had a good word and a smile for everybody no matter what.”

She said that
everybody knew him and everybody loved him.”

According to Woods, Engle, “was always outgoing and friendly.”

Jessica Kelly, who also attended church with Engle said, “Roger was … very nice. He was such a good man, and never in a bad mood.”

Lucy Vallejo, who also knew Engle through church called him “a real gentleman.”

Doss Kornegay, another friend of Engle who met him through church offered some words about him.

“I really liked working with him. He will be missed by the church as a whole,” said Kornegay.

    My condolences to his family and friends. Roger was a wonderful human being. I’ve been going to Don’s Liquor since Mr and Mrs Don were running it at their old location. Every birthday for the past few years, Roger would give me a small bottle gift from the Liquor store and the complimentary pens…He will be truly missed…
