County, City urge hurricane preparedness

Coastal Cameron County residents have a dangerous mindset going into Hurricane Season, Cameron County Emergency Preparedness Director Humberto Barrera has warned.

“Complacency is a dangerous mindset, and most of us are guilty of that, especially during hurricane season,” Barrera told City of San Benito employees Friday morning during a hurricane preparedness meeting.

Preparedness is a hard plan to sell, because people are not in that mindset since we were last struck by a hurricane eight years ago, he said.
