JP race down to wire in runoff

Elections graphicElection Day results in the State and Cameron County runoff races were pending additional counting at 16 precincts as of presstime Tuesday.

According to uncanvassed votes with 11 precincts reporting as of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Democratic runoffs had Jim Hogan leading Richard “Kinky” Friedman, 5,246 to 3,903, for Commissioner of Agriculture. Ruben R. Peña trailed Joe G. Rivera 4,775 to 5,540 in the County Judge’s race for the Democratic nomination. For District Clerk, Eric Garza led Elvira S. Ortiz, 5,331 to 4,820. Sylvia Garza Perez also led with 5,455 votes to Arnold R. Flores Jr.’s 4,696 in the County Clerk’s race. And Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, Place 1 was a close one as incumbent Manuel Flores Jr. trailed Guadalupe Ayala, 779 votes to 815.
