SBCISD Interim Superintendent Alfonso Obregon

SBCISD Interim Superintendent Alfonso Obregon

Alfonso Obregón may have to stick around for a little while longer; the question is how long.

Facing a potentially lengthy investigation into San Benito CISD’s suspended superintendent, Antonio G. Limón, Obregón confirmed Friday his intentions to continue serving as the interim superintendent. Obregón said his contract ends Aug. 30 but indicated that he would stay no more than six months, or until December, or until the probe into Limón concludes.

@ Filli: he ( Mr. Leal) hasn’t been effective? Really.. The last time I checked, it takes a team of 8 to make it work. You need to go back and read your literature.

Mr. Leal is a very well respected board member of 20+years. “shorts man” should take some lessons from him.

Well, then if he has been on the board for 20 years, it’s time for a change, obviously he hasn’t been effective because the school district is in bad shape. And it’s still a conflict of interest.

Upset at Mr. Leal because he voted for your termination based on the recommendation of the principal at Miller Jordan. You sued the district. Now we know the real reason for your comments Filli Atkinson. Some people at Miller still remember your comments of how you were going to set up the district.

I was just shown this from “Selena” and want to clarify it. The school board was provided with biased and incorrect information by the principal at Miller and Limon. People put in their two-cents when they have no true knowledge of the situation. I had a disability that the principal and Limon refused to accommodate, there were no forms to complete and only verbal requests had to be made. All I asked was to remain teaching in 7th grade. In return, they assigned me to teach three different disciplines for three different grade levels.

During the second semester, I fell ill and requested FMLA. Then they turned around and said my contract was not being renewed because of my continued absences while I was out on family medical leave, a federal law that protects employees from adverse action for a 12-week period. Although I was not able to return when FMLA ended, they still took action on it prior to it. If they had been more educated about the situation and made thorough decisions based on facts then none of it would have taken place. The board never asked to speak to me. They should have considered all the facts before making their decision.

In the end, I asked that a form for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations request form be created and posted on the school’s website under “SBCISD Forms” under Human Resources for all employee’s to have access to it. It is now posted in English and Spanish.

I use the laws as they were meant to be, to correct what is wrong. I asked for this form for all employees because I did not want anyone else to go through the same thing I did when it came to requesting accommodations. So, I didn’t have to set up the district, they set themselves up with their lack of education. Again, that is why I made the recommendation that all school board members receive training on all applicable business and educational issues including state and federal laws and regulations.

Really? This board has not once said “what about what is best for the students”. Not once… You are spending our money on these two men. You 4 will not stop until each of you has taken advantage of this position you are in. To Mrs Rodriguez, worry about being the best elem principal and not what you could be. You have not earned those top positions.. Oh I forgot.. You know people who can help you. What a role model you are .. Not!

You think it really matters to him?! He knows he is just an interim….I’m sure he’s laughing at our school district, particularly the immaturity of our trustees, while he’s getting paid $700 plus daily from SBCISD. It’s embarassing that our school politics have hit this low.

Mr. Abregon is playing the game and could care less. From what I’ve heard he’s going all over the district with Chuy and / or the board chair in tow. He’s dancing to their tune since they are paying for the piper. If he had any integrity, he would tell them to buzz off.

Really? The logic of some people. The school district has hit this low under Limon’s leadership. It took years to get to that level, it didn’t happen when the new school board took over. What people don’t like is change, but for the school district to become better than many changes must be made. The fact that everyone just wants to keep rotating school board members with their compadres is not the answer. San Benito has people who just like to gossip, exaggerate the truth, why not focus on making the school district a better one? Ensure that all future board members take training and then hold them accountable for their actions. And why is it okay for Leal to charge $10 per each student to take yearbook pictures and then sell them photo packets, but its not okay for “Chuy” to do business with the school district. See, how the community is, compadrismo. It’s who you like and if not, then all point fingers. No one connected with the school district should be providing any kind of service or selling to the school district, whether employed or elected, it’s a conflict of interest.

Filli, The difference between Mr. Leal and Mr. Chuy is that Mr. Leal is not using taxpayer money for his products. It is paid by parents, not by district taxpayer money. Mr. Chuy is in the other hand is using good old Federal and Local taxpayer money.

Regardless, it is still a conflict of interest on both sides.
