Organized by the Frank Roberts Elementary School staff and Jurelia Costilla, Community Relations Coordinator of McDonald’s, McTeacher’s Night was held in San Benito recently in which Frank Roberts educators and faculty manned the grills and drive-thru windows in a fundraising effort. The Third Annual Texas Independence Day Celebration was held Friday and Saturday outside the Museums of San Benito, located on 210 E. Heywood St. Shown are various scenes of Saturday’s festivities, which included reenactments of the Battle of the Alamo as well as a parade featuring trailriders, reenactors, local veterans and members of the San Benito Historical Society. Pan de campo (camp bread made within a Dutch oven), chili and refreshments were also on sale. Friday’s events consisted of educational symposiums that touched on the role of Hispanics in the Texas Revolution. All events commemorated the 175th anniversary of Texas independence from Mexico.
