RIO HONDO – A high speed chase in Rio Hondo led to the arrest of one man while authorities continue searching for the driver, officials with Precinct 4 Cameron County Constable’s Office said.

According to Jose Zamorano, Chief Deputy for the Constable’s Office, a deputy constable was patrolling southbound on FM 1847 when he came across a Dodge truck traveling at a speed of 80 mph in a 65 mph zone on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at approximately 6:30 p.m.

“He (deputy) turned around in an attempt to pull it over, and a vehicle pursuit ensued,” Zamorano said. “They ended up coming to a stop at the end of a field. Two subjects ran, Border Patrol came out with a canine unit and apprehended an individual by the name of Jorge Gustavo Ramos.”

Ramos, 45, was identified as the passenger of the Dodge. The vehicle was impounded and he was transferred to Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito, Zamorano said.
