Students from the University of Michigan visited San Benito CISD as part of the Alternative Spring Break Program.

Students were given a tour of the city including the Challenger Learning Center and the museums.

Jason Stern, an alumnus from the University of Michigan and a teacher at the San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy (VMA) initiated the program with the hopes of getting the participants to appreciate cultural diversity and gain valuable insight, according to a press release.

“I established this partnership in order to promote an awareness of higher education amongst my students, and to introduce students to a wide range of possibilities and resources that exist for them in Texas and around the country,” Stern said on Tuesday. “It’s really a pleasure participating with the University of Michigan and with the students because they benefit mutually from one another. The students from Michigan are learning from my students, and my students are learning from the University of Michigan students.”
