Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating an instance of alleged elder abuses in the outskirts of San Benito.
On Monday, December 18, 2023, Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence on Camino Angosto, just outside of San Benito, regarding an alleged assault.
Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies made contact with a 72-year-old male who, according to a Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) report, had visible signs of assault.
Sheriff’s Deputies learned from the victim that his 22-year-old grandson, identified as Carlos Emanuel Vega, allegedly assaulted him with a slap to the face.
According to deputies, the victim appeared nervous and intimidated. The elderly man further reported that his grandson has allegedly assaulted him in the past, but the grandfather had not reported the alleged abuse because he did not want to his grandson to face legal ramifications.
Additionally, a witness told Sheriff Deputies that he observed an alleged altercation between the victim and Vega and intervened. Sheriff Deputies made contact with Vega, who denied assaulting his grandfather, and further blamed his grandfather, alleging that his grandfather antagonizes him by telling him to get a job.
