Lopez resigns from board

The San Benito CISD Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Place 7 trustee Janie Lopez during a Dec. 8 special meeting of the board.

Lopez resigned but will continue representing her community at the State Capitol as the new member of the Texas House of Representatives for District 37.

Lopez, a Republican, defeated Harlingen businessman Luis Villarreal by 766 votes in the Nov, general election, receiving 14,451 votes to Villarreal’s 13,685.

Following the board acceptance, Lopez said there has been some difficult and tough decisions to make as a board member but added everything she did was for the betterment of the district, its students and the community.

She also thanked those who voted for her from Cameron and Willacy counties.
