Jesus Abrego, Jr. has been somewhat of an overachiever for most of his life. In high school he was a reoccurring member of the honor roll while maintaining his status as a standout varsity athlete for three years. In addition to being a two-way starter on the Greyhound football team, Abrego was a team captain and State Qualifier as a wrestler. After graduating from San Benito High in 2008, Abrego got started on his journey to help young athletes reach their full potential.

“After seeing how many young athletes and children have the need for guidance and support, I kind developed that desire to help as much as I could,” said Abrego. “I knew I wanted to be a coach when I was still at Dr. Garza Elementary School. I’m excited to start that chapter of my life now.”

After working mainly with the Special Education departments at Berta Cabaza Middle School as well as Sullivan and Ed Downs Elementary, Abrego will be transitioning to a role as coach for the Greypups’ athletic department.

As of now, Abrego is set to be on the staff for the football, basketball, and track team. While it is the first step towards his goal of making difference in the lives of young athletes, it’s far from the end of the journey for the former All-district football player.
