Surveillance footage led local police agencies to a Harlingen residence last week where two men were arrested in connection with a robbery that occurred at Garza furniture and Las Cazuela’s here in San Benito last Wednesday.

According to a press release issued by the San Benito Police Department, members of their criminal investigations unit, with assistance from the Narcotics Unit and Harlingen Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence located on the 900 block if West Wright Street in Harlingen.  The search warrant was related to two burglaries earlier in the week, one in which over $10,000 in merchandise and televisions was stolen.

During the search warrant, police arrested 40-year old Usbaldo Garza and charged him with possession of a controlled substance ($10,000 bond) after he tossed out a “white envelope” believed to have crack cocaine in it, according to police. 20-year old Troy Garza was charged with his involvement in the burglary after he was identified as one of the persons in a surveillance video from the burglaries. He was charged with two counts of burglary of a building and engaging in organized criminal activity.  Some of the stolen property was located at the house and three more subjects are expected to be arrested in connection with the burglaries.

It is unclear how many items were recovered from the search warrant, however police expect to find more once the other arrests are made.

Both men are currently in Cameron County Jail.
