Three weeks ago, the San Benito City Commission made a decision to name Manuel De La Rosa, who had previously held similar positions in Jonestown and Kyle, as their new city manager. While many in the community were expecting current Interim City Manager Art Rodriguez to continue handling those responsibilities, the Commission ultimately settled on De La Rosa with a 3-2 vote. However, now, almost a month later, Rodriguez is still serving as Interim City Manager for San Benito while the contract for De La Rosa has yet to even be written out.

Get over it….Art Rodriguez will never be city manager of the City of San Benito.
Whether this new city manager succeeds or not will depend on how he handles the constant micromanaging by certain members of the city commission. Contrary to popular opinion, It is not a secret.
We need to give the new city manger a chance to prove himself and not knock him down before he even starts. The majority of the city commission have made their decision and we need to abide with it. There is a reason we have elections. If you don’t approve a commissioner’s votes or actions, vote them out. If the new city manager turns out to be a super star, vote out the ones who voted against him.
The city needs a fresh start with a person with integrity, experience, and new ideas. Not this guy who has been jumping around from job to job. I’m saddened by the direction this Board is going and to see my community in shambles.
