At approximately 12:05 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, the San Benito Fire Department hit the streets in pairs of twos, looking to help raise funds for the La Paloma family that lost at least two members in a house explosion Christmas Day. By 12:10, they already had at least 50 donations from different vehicles up and down Sam Houston Blvd., a notion that is pretty much a mirror image of how the community has responded since the tragedy first unfolded. In fact, the response was so overwhelming that the fire department raised over a whopping $8,000 total on the day
