The City recently appointed a new “temporary” court judge as Judge Ben Yudesis and Justice of the Peace David Garza will both be unavailable for at least a few weeks. According to Interim City Manager Art Rodriguez, local attorney Charles Starling will serve as the court judge for the next couple of weeks.

Starling had previously served as a special prosecutor on an “as-needed” basis for the City, as well as being a former District Attorney with more than 30-years’ experience in practicing law. The San Benito resident is also used as a rotational Judge when either of the other two can’t make an event.
“This is a temporary appointment with Judge Ben Yudesis unable to serve at this time,” said Rodriguez, who introduced Starling at last Tuesday’s regular City Commission meeting. “Our second judge, David Garza, who also serves as Justice of the Peace, will also not be available to serve for a short time. We need to have Starling in place to continue to keep the Municipal Court moving forward,” he added. The City did not disclose the reason behind the judges’ absence.
