A United States District Judge recently ordered a San Benito drug lord to serve a 25-year sentence in federal prison, immediately followed by five years of supervised release after he was convicted on federal drug-trafficking charges recently.
According to a press release issued by the U.S. Department of Justice-Southern District of Texas, Hervey Roel, 37, was convicted for his part in a multi-count indictment related to a conspiracy to possess marijuana with the Intent to distribute, after pleading guilty in August 2014 to trafficking more than 15,000 Kilograms of marijuana.
Roel’s lengthy sentence reflected the fact that he owned property where controlled substances were distributed from, that he possessed firearms during the drug conspiracy, that he committed the offenses as part of a pattern of criminal conduct, and the fact that he was the leader/organizer of the conspiracy. The court also ordered a money judgment in the amount of $9 million and forfeited any interest Roel may have in a ranch in Olmito, as well as a residence in Brownsville.
