Finally, a little clarity was brought to the SBCISD reduction of staff situation. After months of speculation and doubt surrounding who might be at risk of losing their job, some light was shed on the issue at a school board meeting on Tuesday night when Superintendent Dr. Marc A. Puig announced his list of employment areas he has identified that might require a non-renewal of contracts. Out of the fifteen areas identified, none included teachers or principals and a third of the areas were High School positions.
After an hour long closed session discussion, the list was announced as follows: Central office counseling department, high school Administrator, high school vocational coordinator, high school testing coordinator, high school counseling department, high school deans, secondary migrant counselors, V.M.A. counseling department, V.M.A. deans of instruction, alternative education center counseling department, alternative education center administrator, middle school deans, middle school assistant principal, elementary assistant principal, and elementary instructional specialist. The school board, which was three members short in Anna Cruz, Oscar Medrano, and Fatima Huerta, unanimously passed the motion which will now let Dr. Puig focus in on reassessing positions to determine if they need a contract renewal or not.

If the majority of constituents in San Benito are as dissatisfied as they say they are, start organizing your recall election. Otherwise, continue with your bashing.

How/why is it that Fatima Huerta and Yliana Gonzales are both current Board Members yet they are running against each other? I know they are legally allowed to, but what is the reasoning/logic/science behind it? Seems fishy…

hey, hey, hey, i wouldn’t worry about whether it’s legal. by running against each other, they’re splitting the, i’ll be nice, non-rocket scientist vote. if they were running for different spots, anyone voting for one is likely to vote for the other. now, the non-rocket scientists have to decide; hence, the vote gets split in half. those more likely to become rocket scientists will vote for joe, and we will finally be rid of the infamous four (june, julian, fatima, and yliana). at that point, we can start moving in a positive direction now that the root causes of our difficult situation have been removed from office.

All this could have been avoided, but the four board members in power at the time needed to pay back l the promises they had made to their supporters that needed principalships and other positions. They needed an interim superintendent that would hire and appoint their chosen ones. However, in the process the interim superintendents knew nothing about insurance and took an 18,000 million fund balance that had been consistent for four years and on the 5th year allowed it to dwindle down to what we have today. All those secret meetings held in Mercedes, Texas, with the board members, insurance consultant and the t-shirt vendor…. as the saying goes….the chickens are coming home to…… Vote Smart…..

My first termination would be Hector Rendon, the Director of the Technology department. Does he do more than monitor the halls and peek into classrooms in his building? For the life of me; I can’t figure out what he does everyday. There is nothing he does or knows that cannot be done by a group of educators with an assigned team leader. I hope it is “adios amigo” for Mr. Rendon.

Most of these positions were created under LIMON way before the new board even came in. Since everything gets blamed on the new board! The road to where we are now has been a long one and everyone involved is equally to blame. Limon created positions for both of Joe G’s sons while on the board but did anyone cry nepotism? Nope. When Fatima and Julian took office members of their family who had already been working with the school district before they took office lost their jobs! But of course it’s only ok when some people do it!!! HYPOCRITES!!!And for the record I’m on neither side I just want all board members to do their jobs for our children.

How about Dr. Puig look into ALL ADMINISTRATORS starting with Adrain Garcia, Dr. Greer (who also received a HUGE RAISE, and Theresa Cantu for all those worthless tablets she bought, and the Secondary coordinator Theresa Servion, who can’t explain the difference between dual credit and Advanced Placement.

While he is at it, all counselors are needed at every campus. To even place these people on your list just shows you have no regard for my children.
While he is at it, how about you, dr puig, turn down your $5,000 raise you are scheduled to get in June?
SBCISD is, because of this board lead for many years by Yliana Gonzalez and Fatima Huerta, the laughing stock of the Rio Grande Valley.
The voters are smart and know who caused this mess.

What Puig needs to do is look into who the real money spenders are and oust them. For example, the so called Principal at PRC, who received a $12,000 raise right before Limon was suspended and wasn’t even certified yet ,not to mention the 3 campuses he’s suppose to look after but yet can never be found out instead the run around game is played..call on campus… HE’S AT THE OTHER CAMPUS call that campus.. HE’S AT THE OTHER CAMPUS. ..call 3rd campus… NO HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO THE OTHER CAMPUS…lol guess he’s still doing what he’s always been known to do…. spend his SCHOOL TIME at home….what a shame. .!!! Not to mention the thousands of $ he spent on someone’s cameras for staff because of one niece of a school member that was a “liability &amp. to which once she left they never got used again from what i understand Not even our school p.d. has body cameras. Let’s end it with the thousands of $ he spend on campus and personal surveillance cameras through out that extremely small campus from what i understand… and the list goes on..HEY PUIG LOOK INTO ALL THAT, SEE WHERE YOUR PRINCIPALS are spending our tax dollars. You’d be surprise what you’d find, we don’t speak out cause of that threat of termination, question the staff and you’ll find out how corrupt he is………but man oh man…I TELL YA…!!!

Hurrah! It seems that the board will be getting rid of some of the top heavy leech positions. They should definitely get rid of instructional coaches, deans and various coordinators. Those are bologna positions taken by poor teachers as soon as they graduate with their masters because they couldn’t handle being in the classroom. In fact it is kinda of ridiculous through out the district. At the high school, they have a science dean when there is no STAAR or EOC test for science at the grade levels there. Plus why are there counselors at the Main Office? There are no students there who need counseling. I am a taxpayer and am definately interested in what happens May 4th.

Amazing how CENTRAL OFFICE ADMINISTRATION is nowhere on the list of departments to be cut. I guess no one at central office plans on leaving their job. Maybe a few just need to be “forced” out of their job. I fail to see how no positions from this particular group are being considered for these cuts. How’s this for an idea…. Re-assign some of those central office personnel to places they will be needed such as high school assistant principals, deans of instruction, and instructional coaches. They will be closer to the students that they’re supposed to be making a difference for. After those re-assignments, combine central office positions so that they handle more than one area. That would be a better use of taxpayer money.
