The San Benito High School Mighty Greyhound Band placed 33rd at the UIL State Marching Band Championships at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Tuesday. The band had previously qualified for State by placing second at the Area competition in San Antonio on Oct. 25. Ranking in the top 10, and thus making the finals at State, were high school bands from outside the Rio Grande Valley, including: Flower Mound, San Antonio Johnson, Austin Bowie and The Woodlands. The highest ranking Valley band at state was Harlingen High at 21st; Brownsville Lopez and Hanna placed 27th and 32nd, respectively; and Edinburg North placed 34th. Signs within the Alamodome read, “Congratulations! You are among the very best bands in the state of Texas!” Members of the Greyhound Band can now say that they too were one of the very best in the state for a second consecutive time. Pictured here are scenes from Tuesday’s State performance. San Benito was also well-represented as hundreds of parents and fans made the trek to San Antonio in support of the band.
