Congressman Vela talks KMBH, PBS transaction

Staff Writer

United States Congressmen whose districts cover portions of the Rio Grande Valley are beginning to voice their opinions about the selling of KMBH-TV to MBTV Texas Valley LLC, a company based out of Del Rio.

U.S. Representative Filemon Vela (D-TX 34th District) and Rep. Ruben Hinojosa (D-TX 15th District) mailed a co-signed letter to Bishop E. Flores of the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville, which owns KMBH-TV, and Roberto Gonzalez, who is the registered agent of MBTV Texas Valley LLC.

The dissolution of the nonprofit “RGV Educational Broadcasting’, the entity that owns the station may have more problems. The monies donated by the public to fund PBS would be legally, (and ethically) bound in support
of Public Television in the RGV, and not the Church.
