Okay, so this fabulous consulting firm SBCISD hired chose the top five candidates and/or were told by the interim AD who would be a good fit for the football program (including the super & principal). Now, the board can’t decide who to go with. I’m sure there are coaches chomping at the bit to wear purple and gold and that want what’s best for the athletes regardless of the price value. Make up your mind and pick a candidate that will work hard to bring the pride back. If not, get the bird seeds ready for the next head coach. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!

Thumbs down for Champion, the board, super, interim AD, and principal!

A pay raise too I’m sure. Huerta family member job/pay upgrade? Yliana family member job/pay upgrade? As much as I want to be a fan of the board and stay positive about the board, actions like these make it very difficult. The mindset to do such things without a care in the world (just for getting ahead for themselves and for family and not for the district they are suppose to represent) is flat out wrong and scary.

Breaking news Huerta’s sister hired as superintendent Secretary. Can you say nepotism? Who will Huerta recommend for coach?

I agree with 98. If you want to hold coach accountable you have to let him hire his own staff. Even if it means letting some of the locals go. 98

I heard they are down to 3. Super and principal want 1. Brown 2. Gonzalez 3. Cavazos but interm wants Gonzalez because the other two want to bring several coaches with him. Why wouldn’t you let the new coach choose his own staff? So some of these lazy guys never have to worry about losing there job. Same old “buddy” system that stems from our genius board members…

Just throwing this out there, I would’ve liked to have seen Anna, Yliana, June, and Fatima play a bigger role in the hiring process of the new AD/HC. Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice is the perfect example, as Standford University provost, she is responsible for the athletic budget and operations including hiring the head football coach. It would’ve been nice to see one of the four female board members stand out and take charge. Really disheartening.

TCB: totally agree! But, I think the comment was referring to interim A.D. not interim superintendent. I think having the interim A.D. on the panel for interviewing is a huge conflict of interest because he is in a win-win situation. I’m sure he is in favor of a coach that will give him the better opportunity. But of course, the school board and interim super came up with this brilliant idea.

TCB: if the board wants him (and I’m sure they do), they gotta pay! PSJA does pay more, I’m sure he’d be asking for $$$ to make a deal. Who takes a pay cut for the responsibility of AD? The board shouldn’t have a problem paying him.

OM: the look on the faces of the board members after two hours of nonsense deliberation was classic… those in attendance shaking their head and saying no no no out loud out in disbelief of the nonsense the board is up to is classic too… as far as pay cuts go, Gus deserves one after putting up a worse record than Gantt the last 3 seasons… board pays Gantt to leave in hope of getting a better coach only to hire Gus who has a worse record than Gantt in the last 3 years… AWESOME!

Come on BIG MONEY. NO WHAMMIES… NO WHAMMIES… BIG MONEY… BIG MONEY… NO WHAMMIES… NO WHAMMIES… NO WHAMMIES… STOP!!!!! <>

Money talk. How much can the board agree to cough up? Who will accept the job and who will turn down the offer?
Political talk. Who’s getting the upper hand in the hiring process? Which coach will the interim get the better deal with. Who’s getting played? Good thing Monty backed out.
Money talks and BS happens in SB!
Who will the board vote on, who will the super recommend? So suspenseful.

Why not just close the program down and save the taxpayer millions!? Why not concentrate on academics instead??
There was a compelling story in The Atlantic from last October. The piece makes a great case for doing something more productive with taxpayer money: Education! Gee, what a novel idea…

I would go with Brown…..He has no relationship ties to no one. He is from out of town. He can bring in a new way of coaching to the team. Bring some much needed discipline to the team. Teach them respect. May also make some much needed changes to the coaching staff…..

Why do you think the school board hired a conulting/hiring firm? To pass the blame on to them (even though they are the mastermind behind the hiring process).

well…coach stumbaugh is out of the running for head coach.why? well that is something the consultant needs to explain or did the the school board have something to do about it? by far he was the most experience to coach the hounds next year but i guess the city leaders dont want our greyhounds to succeed in football….whomever is really in charge of hiring the next coach is seriously gonna get blamed if the next coach is a lame duck like coach gantt… this will be pretty sad for san benito if politics was involved in the hiring…and if it is..i wish all the school board members to be voted out cause i myself will be voting for the other person

I say we throw Champion’s list out the window and hire/pay Mary Saldana $10,000 as a hiring consultant for the AD/HC job and give her until Thursday’s board meeting to make a recommendation. Then throw in an extra $10,000 for all the pain and hurt the SBCISD caused her and her son because they let Coach Spencer Gantt go.
