Voters to decide state, county races

ElectionsThe 2014 Cameron County and State of Texas Primary Elections are set for Tuesday, March 18.

The following are the polling locations for the Democratic Party in San Benito.

Precinct 17 will be voting at La Encantada Elementary School, located at 35001 FM 1577; Pct. 18 and 22 will be voting at Sullivan Elementary School, located at 900 Elizabeth St.; Pct. 19 will be voting at the San Benito Community Building, located at 210 E. Heywood St.; Pct. 21 will be voting at Frank Roberts Elementary School, located at 650 N. Biddle St.; Pct. 40 will be voting at Fred Booth Elementary School, located at 705 Zaragoza St.; Pct. 50 and 109 will be voting at Ed Downs Elementary School, located at 1302 N. Dick Dowling; and Pct. 51 will be voting at La Paloma Elementary School, located at 35076 Main St.

The polling locations for the Republican Party in San Benito are as follows: Pct. 17, 25 and 51 will be voting at La Paloma Elementary School; Pct. 18, 19, 50 and 109 will be voting at Ed Downs Elementary School, and Pct. 21, 22 and 40 will be voting at Fred Booth Elementary School.

The polling locations for the Democratic Party in Los Fresnos are as follows: Pct. 3 and 66 will be voting at the Los Fresnos Community Building, located at 204 Brazil St.; and Pct. 65 will be voting at Las Palmas Housing Project Community Room, located at Highway 100 and Orive Blvd.

The polling location for the Republican Party in Los Fresnos for Pct. 3, 65 and 66 will be at the Los Fresnos Community Building.

The polling locations for the Democratic Party in Rio Hondo are as follows: Pct. 20 will be voting at the Rio Hondo Civic Center, located at 121 N. Arroyo St.; and Pct. 81 will be voting at Rio Hondo High School, located at 22547 State Hwy 345.

The polling location for the Republican Party in Rio Hondo for Pct. 20 and 81 will be at Rio Hondo High School.

The polling location for both the Democratic Party and Republican Party in Las Yescas for Pct. 2 and 99 will be at Las Yescas Elementary School, located at 23413 FM 803.

The polling location for the Democratic Party in Los Indios for Pct. 25 will be at the Los Indios Community Center, located at 309 E. Heywood.

All polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to unofficial totals for the early voting turnout, as of Thursday, Feb. 27, a total of 9,832 voters have turned out at polling locations in Cameron County. Of the 9,832 total voters, approximately 8,486 are registered with the Democratic Party, and 1,346 are registered with the Republican Party.

A total of 1,342 voters turned out to the San Benito Community Building, 1,228 registered with the Democratic Party and 114 registered with the Republican Party.

Approximately 579 voters turned out to the Los Fresnos Community Building, 516 registered with the Democratic Party and 63 registered with the Republican Party.

A total of 162 voters turned out to the Rio Hondo Annex Building, 142 registered with the Democratic Party and 20 registered with the Republican Party.

Voters will decide a two-way race for the 357th Judicial District Judge, in which Democrats Gloria M. Rincones and Juan A. Magallanes are vying. Incumbent Oscar X. Garcia is running unopposed in the Republican Primary.

For Cameron County Judge, incumbent Carlos Cascos faces Republican challenger James M. Dickens; Democrats vying for the race are Joe G. Rivera, Martin Arambula, Ruben R. Peña and T. Rivera.

The Cameron County Court-At-Law No. 1 race features Democrats Arturo A. “Art” McDonald Jr., incumbent, versus Daniel T. Robles. Court-At-Law No. 3 Democratic candidates include Dolores G. Zarate and incumbent David Gonzales III. Democratic candidates for District Clerk are Neida Ruth Soto-Grantland, Rosie Sheldon Sotelo, Enrique Escobedo Jr., Eric Garza and Elvira S. Ortiz.

In the Cameron County Clerk race, Democrats vying are George Kowalski, Don De Leon, Sylvia Garza Pérez, Letty Perez Garzoria and Arnold R. Flores Jr.

Precinct 3, Place 1 Justice of the Peace Democratic candidates include incumbent Manuel Flores Jr., Guadalupe Ayala and Rolando “Manguera” Muñiz. Democratic Pct. 3, Pl. 2 Justice hopefuls are incumbent David Garza and challenger Michelle Zuñiga Cepeda.
