It was on March 2, 1836 when the Texas Declaration of Independence was adopted, and a republic rich in pride and bravado was born. Nearly 178 years later, Texans continue observing the day as equally-proud citizens of the United States of America who feel connected to the events that transpired during the Texas Revolution.

On Friday and Saturday, March 7-8, the Texas Heritage Independence Celebration and Association will mark the occasion with its sixth annual Texas Independence Celebration and Cook-off, slated in San Benito.

Will they have casting of troops for either side? I really want to be able to participate in this event.

  1. There will be an ambience of education, participation and celebration. Friday night, Conspiracy, Roy Solis and the Southwind Band , and the Tejano Boys will perform for the crowd. Also, there will be a showing of the Alamo movie. Come out and have some fun and participate. There will be a cook off. $8000 worth of prizes will be given out to the Cookers. Join us for some fun and to learn about the past. Let’s remember Tejanos and Texians who fought to make Texas an independent republic.
