Cameron County Precinct 3 Constable Joe Cavazos died at the age of 64 on Sunday, Jan. 26, following a lengthy bout with cancer, but not before leaving behind a legacy that his family and former colleagues now remember vividly.
Cavazos served two near full-length terms as Constable dating back to 2008. He first gained notoriety in law enforcement while serving as a patrol sergeant for the San Benito Police Department from 1970-77. In 1977, Cavazos became employed as a patrol supervisor for the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department, serving in said capacity for 28 years.
