McALLEN – The San Benito Lady Greyhounds varsity basketball team defeated the McAllen Nikki Rowe Lady Warriors, 48-31, on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
In the first quarter, Stephanie Castro and Rebecca Hartman of San Benito set the tone by sinking a basket apiece. At the end of the first quarter, the San Benito Lady ’Hounds were up 6-4. Later in the second quarter, Castro rushed through the court scoring two, three pointers. Hartman then contributed two more points as the tandem proved formidable.
Rosa Gomez and Jav’Ana Gonzalez got in on the scoring action after netting two free throws. At the end of the third quarter, the San Benito Lady ’Hounds were ahead 31-17.
The Lady ’Hounds started the fourth quarter and never gave up the lead despite the Lady Warriors’ efforts. Gomez continued her success that night by sinking three more baskets and two free throws. Shoemaker chipped in four points while Castro and Hartman accounted for two points apiece in the fourth.
Gonzalez capped off the night with a free throw.
