Many employees of the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District will be receiving retention incentives as per the approval of the Board of Trustees on Tuesday.

According to SBCISD Planner/Evaluator Ruben Franco, the incentives will be paid to employees who work an average of 20 hours or more per week; have been employed with the district as of Sept. 1, 2012, and have remained employed with the district through Dec. 1 of this year.

“If they meet the criteria, then they are eligible for the $500 incentive,” Franco said.

Spending money on TWO SUPTS is just plain wrong. However, the stadium was built to support extra curricular activities that are important for the development of a well rounded student. Please do not compare what other board members of the past have done to this board. No comparison at all!
By the way, I support all employees…. Not everyone can work with students. We appreciate you!

Notice, not a word mentioned about the students and improving their education, only the employees.
I guess all parties involved think it best to keep the students at the level their at,much more easy to control their votes, when they become of age,or better yet keep dumbing them down, they maynot even wish to vote.

Just a quick question, where was all this concern for education and students when that big huge stadium with the big huge scoreboard was being made? How did that improve education for all? And not long after it was completed, the grass was torn up, removed, and replaced with artificial turf (another huge amount of money). I don’t think that has improved the education of San Benito students any. But not a peep from anyone….

But hand over $500 to try (and I do mean try!) to keep teachers and staff from leaving here to greener pastures, it’s a waste of money. How? The waste of money is having two superintendents on the payroll. The waste of money is having to defend against allegations of discrimination and bullying where none exists. The waste of money is having to pay for an investigative firm to come in and investigate supposed wrongdoings when even the local criminal court and powers that be have not been asked to look into these matters.

Most of the faculty and staff that will be receiving the retention bonus have probably already spent some or all of it for supplies for their students/classroom.

The salary for teachers in SBCISD is not the best in the area… Why should the current teachers stay when just across the way, pay is way much better. $500 is a paltry sum but it is a start. For years, there has been no increase in teacher salaries in SBCISD but yet, the price of gas keeps going up, the price of groceries keeps going up, and yet, I still know teachers that purchase school supplies for their students out of their own pocket.

And I know that the response to this will probably be, “If they don’t like it, they can go elsewhere….” Many have and many do. Many more will but if a small token of appreciation is given, maybe, just maybe, more will stay. And students and education will benefit from the stability.

      Just some food for thought….

How else may this board choose to waste taxpayer monies ?
This is yet another exaple of waste, doesn’t matter if its Tony’s side or the others, all totally void of responsible conduct, simply pay for your votes, with taxpayer dollars.
