So far, so good.

At Thursday’s meeting of the Cameron County Commissioners Court, the group known as Save Dolly was authorized to begin cleanup on the unkempt grounds of Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital in San Benito.

The group sprung into action in early June for the purpose of saving what is considered a historical piece of the city. Their specific plans are to restore much of the hospital’s grounds to make it more attractive to potential buyers and, more specifically, to lure agencies that may be interested in reopening Dolly as a medical facility for veterans. Many believe the latter efforts would be fitting given the hospital’s namesake, Wilma “Dolly” Vinsant, being a wartime nurse from San Benito who died in World War II.
