The YouTube video depicting a San Benito ninth grade teacher attempting to convince her students that she’s the reincarnated Mary Magdalene has accumulated over 140,000 views.
The story has gained national attention since the San Benito News first reported it via sbnewspaper.com on Wednesday, May 9, thanks in large part to the Huffington Post and the Houston Press picking up the story.
As of presstime Tuesday, the YouTube video has since gone viral, garnering over 142,724 views and nearly 500 comments.
The video, recorded by a Veterans Memorial Academy student on Monday, May 7, shows 42-year-old Spanish teacher Imelda Parades engage in bizarre behavior for over 12 minutes, first by discussing the popular conspiracy theory that Jesus Christ was in love with Mary Magdalene and later when she claimed that she was the latter’s reincarnation.

There are those who think that this entire store is hilarious. I am not one if them. It is well documented in medical literature that reactions to medication–particularly certain prescription medications can leave one disoriented, incoherent, irrational and unstable. For those who wish to make pejorative remarks about this educator, first pray that you never have a similar reaction to medication. I wish her and her family the best and hope that at some point that she is able to return to the classroom fully recovered and with this situation permanently behind her. Except for this episode and, apparently a similar episode in December, she has been an educator of the highest quality, earning Teacher-Of-The-Year honor not long ago. Let us pray for a full recovery.
