Carlos “Chale” Leal

Carlos “Chale” LealCarlos “Chale” Leal, 69, passed away on May 29, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. He was born on June 12, 1941 to Alfredo and Amelia Leal and raised in La Paloma, Texas. Carlos was retired from the San Benito CISD.

Carlos will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend too many people. Carlos especially enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren. Some of the grandchildren’s fond memories of their grandpa are building puzzles, coloring, and playing indoor baseball with him. They also remember that their grandpa loved to barbecue and always had gum for them. He will be dearly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Amelia Leal, and his brothers, Edio and Alfredo “Fero” Leal.

Carlos is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Frances Leal; his children Fred (Audrey) Leal, Stephanie (Perrin) Ramirez, Carlos X. Leal, and Christina (Michael) Vasquez; grandchildren, Aaron Figueroa, Marissa Ramirez, Michael Vasquez, Jr., Theresa Vasquez, and Faith Vasquez; sisters, Lydia “Lile” (Celestino) de los Santos, Armila (Policarpio “Pollo”) Arizmendi, Amelia “Mela” (+Ricardo) Rodriguez, Olga (+ Ruben) Cantu, Alice (+Larry) Mares, Irma (Frank) Resendez, Norma (Juan) Loya; and sister-in-law, Angelita Leal. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitations were held Tuesday, May 31and will also be held today, Wednesday, June 1 from 5-9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m.

A funeral mass for Carlos will be said on Thursday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church officiated by his brother-in-law, Rev. Eugene Cañas, O.M.I. Carlos will be laid to rest at Monte Meta Cemetery following the mass.

Funeral services are under the direction of Trinity Funeral Home of Harlingen.
