Luck wasn’t a Lady ‘Hound Saturday night as the San Antonio O’Connor Lady Panthers ended San Benito’s historic playoff run in heartbreaking fashion.
Game two of the best-of-three game series with O’Connor had the San Benito Lady ‘Hounds attempting to claw their way back into a 1-1 series tie after losing Friday night, 16-2. But that wasn’t the case and San Benito fell, 16-0 in five innings of game two – thus completing a series sweep for O’Connor.
The loss ends the Lady ‘Hounds season, which already made headlines with their historic trip to the regional finals, or the Elite 8 as it is known. San Benito, 34-5, had earned the 32-5A district title as well as Bi-District, Area, Regional Quarterfinals and Regional Semifinals titles after beating Harlingen, Eagle Pass Winn, Edinburg North, and San Antonio Southwest, respectively.
Their trip to the Elite 8 was the first for any Valley softball squad and have since been hailed for the feat.
