The Fourth Annual Autism Awareness Walk is set for Friday, April 15 at the Heavin Resaca Trail in San Benito.

The walk will begin at 6 p.m. and is slated to feature numerous activities for children as well as information about autism.

“The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness about autism and what it is,” said Jolie Mireles, President of the RGV Autistic Awareness Group. “It’s just to network with families who have kids with autism, to offer support and advice. The main purpose is to raise awareness about it.”

Mireles hopes to provide an event that will be both informative to the public as well as a fun and safe experience for the children.

“Autism is a neurological disorder that causes our children to react in different ways than a neurotypical person would,” said Mireles, who cites her experiences with her autistic son as an influence for the event.
