Lady ’Hounds earn tennis medals at district tourney

Sierra Pizarro of San Benito placed second in girls’ singles in the District 32-5A Tennis Tournament on Friday, April 8 in Brownsville.

Lady Greyhound junior, Pizarro, defeated Kim Solis of Los Fresnos in the quarterfinals and Andrea Virgen of Hanna in the semifinals before losing to Sofia Montemayor of Hanna in the finals.

Seniors Naomi Lyra and Van Hurtado defeated the team of Loza/Castro (first names unavailable) of Porter in the quarterfinals before pulling of a dramatic come from behind upset of the second seeded team of Cortez/Rosenblum of Hanna in the semifinals. The Lady Greyhound pair lost to defending District Champions Guerra/Guerra of Hanna in the finals.
