Robert Mitchum was once quoted as saying, “Maybe love is like luck. You have to go all the way to find it.” For Rene Luna, he had to go all the way to Chicago, Illinois to find his true love.
It was 1967, and 61-year-old Rene Luna, Sr. was on tour with his conjunto band playing the drums.
“We used to go on tour, and one of the places that we went to was Chicago, Illinois. That’s where I met her, we met at a dance. Since her brother was playing with us, we kind of got together and that’s the way we met. Then we started seeing each other, and that’s the way we got hitched,” said Rene while laughing.
He said that he fell for her, but didn’t believe that she shared his feelings.
“I liked the way she looked, she was beautiful,” said Luna. “She still is beautiful, but she was young with long, blonde hair, green eyes, and she danced pretty good. That’s how we got to know each other.”
