BobcatsRIO HONDO – Following a three-game winning streak, the Rio Hondo Bobcats suffered a loss to the La Feria Lions during Friday night’s game.

After a dead first quarter, and late into the second, Juan Garcia, senior running back for the Lions, placed the first points on the scoreboard at Bobcats Stadium.

Rolando Vega, running back for Rio Hondo, brought in the first touchdown of the night for the Bobcats after a dash from their own 42 to the 3 yardline. Senior quarterback Juan Puga tied the game with the go-ahead score at 6-6.

Late in the second quarter, Lions running back Michael Olivarez was taken off the field on a stretcher following an injury due to a hard hit on the field.

The injury added fuel to the Lions’ fire as they brought in yet another touchdown after a pileup in the end zone, bringing them up (13-6).

Puga made a 42-yard scamper for a touchdown look easy, and it was followed by a successful two-point conversion, giving a one point lead to the Bobcats at 14-13.

Soon after, Puga connected with wide receiver Sergio Perez for 10 yards and another score to put Rio Hondo up 21-13 late in the third quarter.

La Feria would not go away, however, and answered right back with a TD and two-point conversion of their own to knot it up at 21 all.

With 7:44 left on the clock in the fourth quarter, Garcia ran in yet another touchdown for the Lions, securing the lead and a win by the score of 28-21.
