policeThe San Benito Police Department continues the lengthy process of qualifying three of the remaining 15 candidates to obtain the available positions of police officer within the force.

One-on-one interviews with each applicant and SBPD Detective Rogelio Banda, Jr. have already transpired. At present, “We still need to check references, past employers and the investigation has to be really thorough,” said Banda.

“I’m about to go into more detail with the candidates,” Banda explained. He wasn’t joking. SBPD even deems it necessary to speak with applicants’ neighbors, friends and others who know the applicant. If there’s enough evidence regarding undesirable extracurricular activity, an applicant “could be disqualified based on their off duty actions,” Banda added.
