On Friday, August 17, a hush fell across Bobby Morrow Stadium when the varsity San Benito Greyhounds took the field at the first pep rally of the season.

Those few seconds, in which fans had their first opportunity to observe the 2012 Greyhounds, accounted for the only silence that evening. The cheers then commenced as the announcer called the varsity football boys by name, kicking off what some San Benitians consider the best time of the year: Greyhound football season.

San Benito CISD Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón took the microphone, leading everyone in an opening prayer for the safety of those involved in football season – from the players to the cheerleaders, the members of the band to the athletic trainers, and everyone in between.
