RIO HONDO – Madison Kiley Macias of Rio Hondo has a shining smile and a cute, freckled face; and yet one wouldn’t know that this soon-to-be 15-year-old girl has already faced more adversity than people three times her elder.

What began as just a headache turned dire for Madison as she was diagnosed with cancer early this summer.

According to Elaine Macias, Madison’s mother, when the headaches began they weren’t so bad. Eventually, the pain was too much to bear. Fearing something else was wrong, the worried mother sought other answers.

Elaine said Madison was taken to a local hospital, where doctors told her she only had a virus and sent her home without a prescription and instructions to take Tylenol.

But the headaches did not end.

According to Elaine, Madison was also nauseous occasionally and began sleeping more often. Call it mother’s intuition, but she knew something was not right.
