When the San Benito News was tasked with selecting the 2012 Sportsmen of the Year, it was a no brainer going with Jacob Puente and Kassandra Sanchez.

Both recipients of the award have shown much dedication and determination, leading their teams to victories and raising their spirits during defeat.

Puente, the now 18-year-old star quarterback for the Greyhounds and award-winning left fielder for the baseball team, has never once doubted his abilities. Since he was 5 years old, he knew how to throw a perfect spiral and how to keep a good eye while in the batter’s box.
