After a rigorous best of three series, the San Benito Lady ’Hounds fell short to the Harlingen South Lady Hawks on Thursday, 7-6, and Friday night, 2-0, eliminating them from the playoffs.
The District 32-5A co-champs went 24-4 overall and 12-2 on the season. Star pitcher Amber Jasso developed well, showing signs of improvement every game, as did all other players on the team.
Head Coach Elias Martinez had little to say after Friday’s game, which San Benito dropped at home, but did mention that he, along with the rest of the junior and sophomore players, would miss the seniors. “We love these girls to pieces,” he said glaring onto the field. “When you think of Lady ’Hounds softball, their faces are what you see.”

Jerry Rodriguez stories are awesome great pictures
Hey where is scorekeeper rick? The girls had a great year, but we have not heard from their number one fan.
What? What new ways can they prepare for next year? Where to go who to see , what new mind set to prepare , we can pratice and pracice but how about the person, the team, the oppertunities? what we call inner things that have more power that add that needed edge to prepare for next year.. Attitude maybe, players who can take us over the top? Following in person or as a group the rest of the playoff’s all the way to state, meet new people, teams, coaches? What did it take this year to win a state championship what did we see what did did we learn while we traveled the roads up (north) to experiance the excitement of the game to see and experiance what it took to win a state championship game? Yes I agree those junior and sophmore players will truley miss thier senior’s but the glare onto the filed from Coach Elias Martinez comes from deep inside his heart and I am sure the hearts of all his past and future players and their fans. Good Luck next year! injoy your famalies and the rest of the summer!.
