The San Benito City Commission appointed a new City Attorney at a special meeting Tuesday at the San Benito Municipal Building.
After some confusion regarding a motion made by City Commissioner Tony Gonzales, a motion was made by Commissioner Bill Elliot to appoint former Mayor Ricardo Morado.
The confusion came when Gonzales initially read a statement calling for a motion to suspend current city representation, which at the time was Janice Cassidy. Commissioners Celeste Sanchez and Elliott, however, said that particular item was not on the agenda.
Elliott’s motion to acquire Morado’s services was then seconded by Commissioner Rene Villafranco, to which the commission voted unanimously in favor.
“I’m honored by the decision of the city commission,” said Morado after the meeting was adjourned. “I look forward to working with the city.”
