A Harlingen man is behind bars after police say he crashed into a Jeep that was parked on the side of the expressway in San Benito, and then proceeded to flee on foot with several young children. According to a press release from the San Benito Police Department, Samuel Cavazos, who police say has a home in San Benito but is a Harlingen resident, was apprehended after police located two eight year old boys in the hospital that sustained injuries consistent with a car crash, but no parent or guardian with them.
Witnesses say that a driver of a Jeep Cherokee had pulled to the shoulder of the expressway due to mechanical problems and was standing to the side of his vehicle. Cavazos, driving a Ford F-150, allegedly crashed directly into the jeep, ejecting the other driver several feet from the scene, eventually landing near the exit ramp.
