City set to lower parks, facility fees

Park and building rental fees in San Benito are being reduced by the City Commission to encourage greater citizen use of local facilities and generate revenue for the City.
“By reducing rates, we hope that more citizens will use our facilities for their recreational and social events,” said Mayor Celeste Z. Sanchez. And, simultaneously, we will increase funds for the City to maintain those same facilities, she said.
With the price drops, more families can use our parks for birthday parties and our buildings for wedding showers or quinceañeras.
“Now that we have lowered the prices of our facilities, we want people to come take advantage of the amenities that we have. For example, at Kennedy Park we have our newly installed Fitness Zone and Volleyball net,” said Parks and Recreation Director Art Garza.
Notable among the price reductions is the rental fee for the WH Heavin Amphitheater and Heavin Memorial Park which dropped to $200 from $300 per day. The cost for use of the Resaca-front park includes use of the concession and restroom facilities. A health permit for food handling, which is required, is not included in the fee.
