Season ends for Bobcats

RIO HONDO, TEXAS—Both the Bobcat baseball and softball teams had their seasons end within a day of each other last week against teams from up north.

Both teams, however, did have spots in Class 3A Division I play after a successful showing in District 32-3A competition.

The Bobcats’ baseball team played in a best-of-three game series against Falfurrias, but were swept. The Jerseys won the first game, 15-0, and held the Bobcats to one hit, that one coming from Julian Serna. Rio Hondo committed four errors.

Falfurrias won the second game, 10-0.

Rio Hondo hits came from Caleb Sandoval, Marcus Flores, Sebastian Gonzalez, and Juan Padilla. They didn’t commit any errors in the second game.

To advance to the playoffs, the Bobcats finished second with a 4-4 record in district behind champion Raymondville (6-2).

Rio Hondo’s season record ended at 16-13.

The Lady ’Cats, who earned their way to the second round, lost to Bishop, 11-0.

They closed their season with an 8-13 record.

Rio Hondo had a 6-2 record, good enough to place second in district behind champ Lyford (6-1).
