The San Benito Greyhound Varsity Basketball Team will play a tiebreaker Friday at Brownsville Veterans Memorial to decide who plays in the postseason and represent District 32-6A’s fourth place team.
Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m.

The teams, who finished district play with identical 1-7 records, beat each other once during district play in away games. San Benito beat Veterans on Jan. 31 by a 33-32 score, and previous to that lost at home on Jan. 14 by a 56-47 margin.

Last week at home, it appeared that San Benito’s postseason hopes went by the wayside when the ’Hounds lost to the Brownsville Hanna Eagles, 40-37.

The ‘Hounds had an opportunity to tie with 8.9 seconds left on the game clock, but they didn’t get a clean shot.

San Benito had a 21-19 halftime advantage, but the second half was a game of wills as five lead changes occurred. The ‘Hounds last lead was 33-32, and came with under six minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
Hanna was able to stay ahead after being fouled five times in the final two minutes and going to the free throw line, making 6-of-10 shots.

The ‘Hounds’ district finale on Tuesday wasn’t as close as they lost to the Los Fresnos Falcons, 71-58.
