LF hosts annual rodeo

LOS FRESNOS, TX —The rodeo grounds here will be teeming with attendees as, “The Best Little Rodeo in Texas” and the Cameron County Fair & Livestock Show commences on Feb. 14 and runs through Feb. 16, 2025.

The 35th Annual Los Fresnos Rodeo and Cameron County Fair & Livestock Show, as it’s formally called, is once again slated as a three-day event, blending traditional rodeo excitement, live entertainment, and family-friendly fun, all set against the backdrop of the western spirit. The event also features the Heart of America Shows Carnival. Tickets are available at LFrodeo.com, Los Fresnos City Hall, Stich Gallery in Harlingen, Boot Jack Valley-wide, and at the gates.

Friday evening’s 7 p.m. rodeo and concert combo tickets are $35 per person, while concert-only tickets are $25 per attendee. The concert will commence immediately after the rodeo at around 9:30 p.m.

Saturday’s 7 p.m. concert and rodeo combination tickets are also $35 per person, according to the Los Fresnos Rodeo’s website; and concert tickets alone are available at $25 per attendee. Sunday’s 3 p.m. rodeo tickets are $30 per person.

An additional $10 per vehicle parking fee is not included in the cost of admission. The parking fee can be paid upon arrival at the rodeo grounds. Organizers are asking patrons to provide exact change for parking. The event itself will proceed, rain or shine; all sales final. Attendees are asked to arrive early (at least one-two hours) prior to the rodeo’s start time due to lines and crowds.

Additionally, vendors will be present throughout the event grounds, offering a variety of merchandise, crafts, and local cuisine for attendees to explore and enjoy.

Pedestrians are welcome to roam the fair and livestock show grounds at no charge.

Concerts
Friday night’s concert features acclaimed Tejano music artist, Elida Reyna Y Avante led by the incomparable Elida Reyna.
Elida Y Avante (EYA), is a Latin Grammy Award winning Tejano band formed in the Rio Grande Valley in 1992. Their first two albums “Atrevete” (1994) and “Algo Entero” (1996) were qualified for gold status and produced the popular singles “Luna Llena” and “Lagrimas De Amor.”

They were awarded “Billboard” Magazines “Revelacion Del Año” award, and were named “Rising Group of the Year” at the TTMA Industry Awards in 1995. Their 2010 album, “Fantasia,” earned them a Latin Grammy Award. Lead singer Elida Reyna was given a place in the “Tejano Roots Hall of Fame.”

According to the group’s online biography, Elida Reyna was born in San Antonio, TX. She first lived in Dallas, TX, but she lived in a disinvested neighborhood, and her grandmother had been ill, so her family decided to move to Mercedes, TX when she was eight-years-old. She was then raised in Mercedes. Growing up, she listened to Tejano Music legends like Roberto Pulido, La Mafia, Grupo Mazz and Laura Canales.

Canales and her music had a big influence on Elida. Canales showed Elida that Tejano music wasn’t just for guys. Reyna is known as “La Reina Del Valle Mágico” (“The Queen of Magic Valley”) Reyna began singing at quinceañeras and weddings in 1988. In 1991, while studying at Pan American University in Edinburg, TX, she met arranger Noel Hernandez. Hernandez later became the bass player for the band. In 1992, Reyna abandoned her studies to pursue music full-time.

Saturday’s featured act is Kolby Cooper with special guest Rustic Rose. According to Cooper’s official online biography, Cooper hails from East Texas, and is raising his three children with his high school sweetheart and wife, Jillian.

After releasing his critically acclaimed album, “Boy From Anderson County To The Moon,” he made his Grand Ole Opry debut. Marking four years in the music business, in that time, he’s garnered millions of streams and sold-out shows across the country.

The prolific songwriter has an uncanny ability to turn his and his friends’ life stories into relatable songs his rabidly zealous fan base can’t get enough of, reads his site. Cooper’s latest release through BBR Music/Wheelhouse Records, in partnership with Combustion Music, “Kill Me” is an anthem with epic vocals and fiery instruments, marking a new era of Cooper’s music.

Carnival
The carnival midway offers a variety of rides and attractions for attendees of all ages to enjoy. From classic carousel rides to thrilling roller coasters, there will be something for everyone to experience and enjoy. Carnival treats such as cotton candy, funnel cakes, and corn dogs will also be available for purchase.

Livestock Show
The Cameron County Livestock Show provides attendees with the opportunity to admire a variety of livestock breeds and learn about the importance of agriculture in the South Texas community. Local high school FFA members will showcase their prized projects, highlighting the region’s rich agricultural heritage. The livestock show is free of charge for attendees.

Parade
On Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., the festivities will kick off with a parade commencing on East. Second and Alamo, St. in Los Fresnos, featuring floats, marching bands, and equestrian groups. The procession will then continue north on Arroyo Blvd. and conclude at Memorial Park across from Los Frenos High School.

Organizers anticipate that a quarter million guests will pass through the gates of the Los Fresnos Rodeo Grounds. The Los Fresnos Rodeo Grounds are located at 500 E. Ocean Blvd., Los Fresnos, directly off Hwy. 100. For more information, contact 1-(855) 537-6336.
