The San Benito Chamber of Commerce recently hosted its first Chamber Member Mixer of the year, an event that marked a significant milestone in community engagement and local business networking, says Chamber Director Michelle Guerra Velez.

The success of this event is attributed to the collaborative efforts of the San Benito Chamber of Commerce Board, the Chamber Membership Committee, the San Benito Cultural Arts Department, and the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum. Their collective dedication and hard work ensured a memorable evening for all attendees, remarked Guerra Velez.

One of the key highlights of the event was the announcement of the new Board of Directors for the San Benito Chamber of Commerce. Selected for their exceptional professional and educational backgrounds, these individuals have graciously accepted the responsibility of serving as advisors to the Chamber. “Their expertise and unique perspectives will undoubtedly contribute to the Chamber’s mission of fostering economic growth and community development,” Guerra Velez is quoted as saying.

The newly appointed board members include retired educator and former San Benito Mayor Gilbert Galvan, Patricia Avila of the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame & Museum located in San Benito, William Rosales with Telemundo, Adam Abrego of VHC Family Health & Night Clinic, and Luis Gonzalez, San Benito CISD Director of Public Relations.

The evening was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests, including San Benito City Manager Fred Sandoval, San Benito Mayor Ricardo “Rick” Guerra, San Benito Commissioner Pedro A. Galvan, and San Benito Commissioner Tom Goodman. Their attendance, along with that of numerous businesses and community members, underscored the strong support for the Chamber’s initiatives and the shared commitment to the growth and success of the San Benito community, noted Guerra Velez.

The event was further enriched by a captivating exhibit, “Due South,” presented by the Texas Sculpture Group and hosted at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum. The exhibit, curated by Aleida Garcia, Director of the Cultural Arts Department, added a cultural dimension to the evening, showcasing the vibrant artistic talent within the community.

Attendees were treated to a delightful culinary experience, thanks to the contributions of local eateries such as Cabo Bar and Grille, Pappasitos Smokehouse & Then Some, SB Wings, and Blue Marlin Restaurant. The evening’s ambiance was further enhanced by a musical performance from Mr. Mascorro, adding to the festive atmosphere. Photography for the event was expertly handled by Tony Yanez of AYIII Photography, one of the Chamber’s newest members.

The Chamber Member Mixer was open to the public at no cost, providing an excellent opportunity to attract potential new members and highlight the benefits of Chamber membership. Events like this underscore the crucial role that a Chamber of Commerce plays in promoting community cohesion and economic development.

Among the attendees were representatives from a diverse array of organizations and businesses, including San Benito City Hall, the San Benito Economic Development Corporation, Boswell Elliff Ford, Funeraria Del Angel Mont Meta & Memorial Park, WellMed Medical Management, Inc., Paw N Spaw, MSGraphics, Valley Baptist Health System, Edward Jones-Financial Advisor: Alex Ambriz, Rally Credit Union, Sunny Glen Children’s Home, Martinez Dental Group, Lone Star Inn – San Benito, The Shop with A Little Bit of Everything, Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame, U.S. Lawns – Harlingen, The Studio By Carolina, V.I.P., Castillo Creative Consulting, Children’s Advocacy Centers of Cameron and Willacy Counties, Texas Southmost College, TVNS, and First Community Bank.

“The success of this event is a testament to the vibrant and engaged community of San Benito,” Guerra Velez remarked. “The Chamber looks forward to hosting many more such events in the future, continuing to foster connections and promote the growth and prosperity of local businesses and the community at large,” she concluded.
