Museum hosts Castillian Roses exhibit

The City of San Benito Cultural Arts Department (CAD) is presenting its annual Castilian Roses In December exhibition; which, this year, is coinciding with the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum’s 5th year of opening its doors.

This exhibition commemorates the wondrous legend of La Virgen de Guadalupe that dates back to December 12, 1531, when she is said to have appeared to Juan Diego and bestowed upon his tilma (cloak) Castilian Rose Blooms and a miraculous imprint of her portrait.

This fifth iteration showcases Rio Grande Valley artists who have created interpretive works based on the story of La Virgen de Guadalupe or the many facets that make up this patron saint of the Americas. The San Benito CAD firmly believes that engaging and dialoging with tradition is key to preserving the rich tapestry of our regional history, said museum officials.

Castilian Roses in December will have its opening reception on Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum. The exhibit will run through January 19, 2023. The museum is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
