Dinosaurs invade San Benito

As the general infatuation with dinosaurs continues to grow, especially amongst young children, the San Benito Public Library (SBPL) jumped into the frenzy by hosting the emerging company “Jurassic RGV” this past Wednesday.

In front of a packed room of smiling youngsters, the ‘dinosaur handlers’ delivered an educational presentation before heading outside for dino-themed games and pictures. Boasting everything from life size velociraptors to a giant T-Rex, it was undoubtedly an once-in-a lifetime experience for those in attendance.

Jurassic RGV was began in 2020 by Sunday school teacher Cindy Benitez and her husband to satisfy the growing demand for dinosaur-themed content. In just three short years, the company- which travels up and down the Valley giving presentations on a near daily basis now- has grown into one of the most sought-after groups in the Valley. According to Benitez, the library appearance was the 453rd presentation for Jurassic RGV.

“We have so many bookings, but we started this company for the children, so anytime we can do a presentation like this where a community of children can come experience this together, our whole company really enjoys these events,” said Benitez. “Our biggest accomplishment is that we’re able to have a positive influence on kids because they really look up to us and listen to the advice our presenters give.”

The presentation ran from 11 a.m. to noon and was part of the Library’s summer reading program. According to Program Organizer Jonathan Mills, well over 60 children attended the event, which was aimed at encouraging younger children to visit the library and enhance their reading efforts.

While Jurassic RGV drew the biggest crowd, it was just one of roughly 15 events the library will end up hosting this month.
