The 2023-24 school year budget for the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District has been adopted.
The $122 million plus package contains a two-percent across the board increase for the district staff plus a $1,200 retention stipend for every full time employee working for the district until the end of this year.
The board of trustees also recommended looking into giving $600 to part-time employees.
The budget was adopted during Tuesday’s June 27 meeting of the board.
Other changes included setting a teacher‘s starting salary an increase of $2,000, or from $50,000 to $52,000.
The increase is intended to make the district more competitive to others of similar size.
Prior to the board regular meeting, a budget workshop was held to discuss the finances for the next school year.
Monica Mata, the district’s chief financial officer, said child nutrition, general fund and debt service totals $120,219,286. She said the new budget figures were slightly higher than the 2022-23 budget of more than $120.5 million. She went on to explain that the new figure could go increase or decrease if student enrollment changes.
